Jose Aldo returns to the octagon on Saturday night in the hope of sealing a three-fight win streak.

The Brazilian has racked up consecutive wins over respected contenders Pedro Munhoz and Marlon Vera and will now headline UFC Vegas 44 against Rob Font.

Aldo’s return to form has been dramatic over the last year since he suffered the first three-fight losing streak of entire his career.

His original downturn came when he lost his UFC Featherweight title to Conor McGregor in December, 2015 where he was knocked out early in the first round with landing a single shot on the Irishman.

The 35-year-old was once one of the most prominent faces in the promotion - and it’s a face that is distinctive thanks to a unique scar on his cheek.

Aldo received it as a child through a rather bizarre accident. It took place at a family party and Aldo’s eldest sibling, Joseline, picked up his crib and threw it at her sister.

Aldo was in it at the time and ended up landing face first on a lit barbecue, leaving him scarred.

“They were playing around and threw me in there,” Aldo said in an interview in 2009. “It was hot. I was a little baby. They were little kids. There was another time when my little sister broke my head. I have all kinds of stories.”

His backstory also makes for interesting reading and had aspirations of becoming a footballer while growing up in his native Brazil.

He was said to be tired of getting beaten up as a kid, though, and started training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and moved to Rio De Janeiro to make a career out of it.

Aldo went on to be one of the most feared fighters in MMA winning 18 straight fights between 2006 and 2015.

There were some big names on his hit list including Urijah Faber, Cub Swanson, Kenny Florian, Chad Mendes (twice) and Frankie Edgar.

He now has a chance to return to the title picture by halting the emergence of fast-rising contender Font.
